HappyBelly

Food safety & allergen notice

Last updated 8 September 2026

Please read this before ordering. It explains how food sold on HappyBelly is prepared and what you should check.

Food is cooked in private home kitchens

Meals sold on HappyBelly are prepared by independent cooks, usually in their own homes. These kitchens are not commercial facilities and are generally not inspected in the way a restaurant kitchen is. By ordering you accept this.

Allergens and cross-contamination

Cooks list the allergens they know of in each dish, but the same kitchen, equipment and surfaces are used for many dishes. We cannot guarantee any meal is free from a given allergen.

  • If you have a serious allergy or intolerance, message the cook before you order.
  • Treat every dish as potentially containing common allergens including nuts, milk, eggs, wheat, soy, fish, shellfish and sesame.
  • Dietary labels such as vegan, halal or gluten-free are provided by the cook and are not independently verified by HappyBelly.

Handling your food

Collect or accept delivery at the agreed time, keep hot food hot and cold food cold, and refrigerate leftovers promptly. Food is prepared to be eaten the same day unless the cook says otherwise.

Cook responsibilities

  • Hold any permit, cottage-food registration, licence or insurance your local rules require.
  • Follow safe food handling, storage and temperature practices.
  • List ingredients and allergens accurately, and answer buyer questions about them honestly.
  • Do not sell high-risk items your local rules prohibit.

If something goes wrong

If you believe food you bought made you unwell, stop eating it, contact the cook and email hello@happybelly.food straight away. For serious illness, seek medical help and report it to your local health authority. HappyBelly is a marketplace and is not the preparer or seller of the food.
